University of Glasgow open days

The University of Glasgow was founded in 1451 and is one of the oldest universities in the world. It has been home to world-changing research and teaching for more than 570 years and is part of the Russell Group.  

The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, study abroad and exchange opportunities, online distance learning, and continuing professional development courses. It often appears in our subject top ten league tables across a diverse range of topics including art and design, nursing, dentistry, medicine, civil engineering and law, among others.

Facilities  

This university offers world-class sporting facilities and has one of the best libraries in Europe. Some of the facilities include a 25m swimming pool, synthetic all-weather pitches, grass pitches, tennis courts, a gym, two student unions and an enormous library over 12 floors. 

It also has its own museum and art gallery called The Hunterian and is Scotland's oldest public museum. Home to one of the largest collections outside the National Museums, it is a central resource for research and teaching in the arts, humanities and natural and medical sciences. 

Why go to an open day?  

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.  

Where is it located? 

The University of Glasgow is made up of three campuses, one of which is in Dumfries. The other two are both just outside the city. Gilmorehill campus is in the west end of Glasgow about three miles from the centre and Garscube campus is to the northwest, about four miles from the city. Both are accessible by bus or subway. 

Glasgow is one of the UK's largest cities and has the second largest student population in the UK, with more than 185,000 students from 140 countries. As Scotland's largest and most diverse city, it's home to museums, galleries, music, comedy, films and the arts, as well as famous festivals such as Celtic Connections. In fact, it's the UK's first UNESCO City of Music, hosting around 130 music events every week. 

Few cities have as friendly a reputation as Glasgow very affordable, which is why many graduates choose to stay and work there.

The University of Glasgow has been a strong performer in our UK university league tables, consistently taking a top 30 spot for the past five years. It has many strong areas including entry standards, research quality, graduate prospects and continuation of study.
