A students' guide to university shortlisting
University shortlisting can be a long and arduous task. That’s why the Complete University Guide created Uniselect, to give you a shortcut to your shortlist.

University research can take a long time and it’s important to find a uni that is going to offer what you need to have the best possible experience. Trying to find a university that offers everything you’d like can be difficult, especially when you look at lots of different university websites and you forget which one offers what. You also may not even think of everything that is important while researching.
Uniselect has easy-to-answer questions all in one place that matches you with the universities that are best suited to you.
Here is how Laura found her Uniselect search.

Where and what are you hoping to study?
I know that I don’t want to stay in London, and I want to study Geography. It is so useful that I can choose where in the UK I would like to study and get my shortlist of universities that I can also view on a map to see how far I’d be from home.
How do you research universities now?
Me and my parents sit together at the computer and look at university websites and make notes.
So, Uniselect helped you find that information all in one place?
Yes, by answering a few simple questions I was given a shortlist of the universities that match my requirements. I chose the sports I’d like to play, the kind of location I’d like to live in, and you can specify universities that offer wellbeing services and student jobs on campus.
Once I have my shortlist, I can save my favourites in my profile to go back to at any time. It is so convenient.
Would you recommend Uniselect to friends?
I used the Complete University Guide league tables anyway and trust your information. I would definitely recommend Uniselect to my friends to match with universities and get their own shortlists.
What were your favourite things about Uniselect?
I really liked the map as I could visually see where different universities were in relation to where I live. When researching universities, it is hard to work out how far they are from home, so the map in Uniselect is very useful.
How easy was the tool to use?
The questions are laid out clearly and it doesn’t take long at all to get your shortlist. The questions are easy to follow, and you can create and save as many shortlists as you’d like.
Why not try for yourself?
With Uniselect you can create your own personal list of top universities based on your answers to a few simple questions. Choose where in the UK you’d like to study, the location and campus type and customise the choices based on the subjects and sports you’d like the universities to offer.
Uniselect uses the high-quality data that we are known for to help prospective students narrow down their options from the 130 UK universities and 60,000 courses featured in our league tables.
We've been developing Uniselect alongside students over the past 6 months and we're planning to continue making it even better! To do this we are first launching a Beta version. We’d love you to create a personalised shortlist and answer a short survey that will pop up after Uniselect has delivered your shortlist. If you’d like to give us more detailed feedback or to ask us any questions about Uniselect, please email uniselect@idp.com
