Austin's story of studying at Heriot-Watt University
Austin is studying Accounting and Finance
Find out why Austin chose to study at Heriot-Watt University.
I'm Austin, I am first year at Heriot-Watt and I have come to Heriot-Watt from Devon in England. I'm currently studying Accounting and Finance here at Heriot-Watt and I'm finding it really enjoyable so far, it's everything that I wished it would be. It's really good to be speaking with experts in the field coming in and sharing their knowledge with you in in the classroom.
How was results day for you?
So, on results today I went on to the UCAS website and it had a few options of places that were doing the course that I wanted to do, and Herio-Watt just stood out to me.
How did you find Clearing?
The Clearing process can be quite stressful, but I'd like to say that the people at Heriot-Watt who were helping me through that stressful results day morning made it as easy for me as possible.
How is your first year going?
So, I find living on campus is quite useful in the first year, the accommodation itself is really good. While you're still learning the layout of the university having a bit more time on your hand to go and find your lecture room is quite helpful.
How are the facilities at Heriot-Watt?
I probably say Oriam is the facility I make the most of, obviously it's a very good sports facility, I use the gym in there and I also take part in some of the recreational clubs like futsal for example.
I'd say I use to student union quite a lot for going to watch the football or just go for a drink with mates, it’s nice to have those sorts of things on site, so you've got the option of traveling into town or staying on campus.
What would be your advice to students who find themselves in the same postion as you?
My advice to students who are in a similar position as me, with moving far away from home or going through Clearing, is just commit to it and do it. The thinking about it and overthinking is where the doubts about it will set in.
If you if you just go for it, home's still going to be there for when you come back, so go out and enjoy yourself, and yeah, take those opportunities.
