Clearing success story: University of Bradford

1. What is your name? 

Farwa Asif

2. What degree had you originally applied for and where?

I originally applied for Optometry at the University of Bradford. I also applied for Medicine at Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester. 

3. What is your degree, and where are you studying?

I am currently in my second year of studying MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy at the University of Bradford after completing the Foundation Year in Clinical Sciences and Medicine course at Bradford too. 

4. Why did you enter Clearing?

On Results Day, I did not achieve the results I needed to get into Optometry, but I was offered an unconditional place on BSc (Hons) Chemistry. However, Chemistry was not something I wanted to do so I had a look to see what courses were in Clearing. 

5. What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose?

Even though Pharmacy was one of the courses in Clearing at Bradford, I didn’t have the grades for that course. None of the other courses in Clearing were suitable for me until I came across the Foundation Year in Clinical Sciences and Medicine course. As medicine was something I was interested in, I applied for the course hoping to progress onto medicine or another science-related course after completing the foundation year. I was invited for an interview on the same day, shortly followed by confirmation of my place on the course at Bradford. 

6. Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?

I would absolutely recommend Bradford to anyone who wishes to apply. The lecturers are very supportive, and there is a Peer Assisted Learning Scheme that allows students from different year groups to help each other throughout the year by providing insights into the best ways to go about the course. Overall, my decision to come to Bradford has been worthwhile and I hope to see you around campus!
