Clearing Success Story: Wrexham University
Find out about how Emma got her place at Wrexham University through Clearing

1. What is your name
Emma Telfer
2. What is your degree, and where are you studying?
My degree is Psychology with a foundation year and I’m studying at Wrexham University.
3. Why did you enter Clearing?
As an adult learner, I didn’t go through the usual process of applying to a lot of universities through UCAS. I did my research and visited universities that would suit me and align with my interests. Not all universities offer the option to do a foundation year either and going to Wrexham directly suited how I wanted to apply.
4. What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose?
I decided that I would focus my intentions on finding a university that was on the smaller side so I could easily get to know my peers and lecturers. I also decided to look for a university that I felt was inclusive, and that had a good age range of students that attend. Wrexham met all my expectations and even more so when I went to an open day.
5. Did you attend a Clearing open day and, if so, how was it?
Yes, it was in August. I loved it and it was the first one I went to. I had a few to go to after that but, I ended up not going because I was so impressed with Wrehxam I knew when I met all the other students and ambassadors on the day that I needed to be here.
6. Did you find a place to live easily?
Everything was really quick as I went to accommodation the same day as the open day and got sorted within a couple of weeks. They showed me the room types and prices and they let me know that 1st time students get priority. They got in touch when I applied the next day. Everything happened quickly from the open day to starting but, for me it was a simple and easy process and I’m so glad I went through it.
7. Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
When I reflect on what I have already learnt about psychology, and myself, I realise that the impact my studies has had is huge. There are endless opportunities to be involved in amazing things and this is one of the parts I love most about the university. I am currently a Student Ambassador and through this role I have been offered opportunities such as Instagram takeovers, blogs to share my experiences with others, research opportunities and training opportunities like becoming a TrACE champion for the university.
