Lucy's Clearing story
Lucy is studying Medical Genetics
Lucy was anxious about going thorugh Clearing, Swansea made the process as stress free as possible for her.
Hi, I'm Lucy. I'm studying Medical Genetics.
Before coming to university, I was quite anxious about making new friends and my course as I came through Clearing.
I hadn't been to an open day before I came. But, when I actually got here, everyone was really friendly and welcoming.
How was starting university?
I was put into a flat with people that I had similar interests to. It was a really good experience.
If you are going through Clearing, don't feel anxious. I know it can feel like the end of the world. I remember being really upset and thinking that I wasn't going to get in anywhere, but Swansea give you a chance. They will see what's the best option for you.
And sometimes what you want to originally do won't work out for a reason and there's another calling for you.
I've definitely found that with my course. I chose to do Medical Genetics because it was similar to what I initially was looking to do, Medicine, but I didn't get in.
Was the university supportive?
Swansea were really good in terms of picking me up and giving me more confidence to come in and do Medical Genetics. I did a bit of research on the website before I came, and I thought it looked interesting. I'm loving it so much here that in the future I might even want to stay at Swansea and do a master's or even potentially some postgraduate study relating to Medical Genetics.
Making friends at university
I made friends through societies, and through my flat, and also through my course.
So, I made lots of friends in different places, but it's quite nice having that, because then you have your separate friends. And there are lots of different people to hang out with whenever you have free time.
What does Swansea mean to you?
Since coming to Swansea, I've definitely felt like I'm valued as an individual.
There's lots of room here to express yourself and to be individual.
Everyone is unique, and that's what I love about Swansea. I've met people from all over the world and all different walks of life. If somebody were to ask me what Swansea meant to me, I would say that now it's kind of become my second home.
I definitely have a big place in my heart for Swansea. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else, especially now I've really settled in and felt so welcomed.
I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
