About the course

People, cultures and societies are different the world over. As an Anthropology student, you’ll explore a wide diversity of cultural contexts. You’ll study the ways in which people around the globe tackle contemporary issues – from climate change, health inequalities and environmental degradation, to racial discrimination, gender-based violence and human rights.At Sussex, you’ll learn from experts tackling real-world problems. We influence debates on topics such as social justice and activism, sexualities and queer experiences, contemporary forms of slavery, ethical trade and religious conflict.We value interdisciplinarity. Throughout your course, you’ll be encouraged to study global challenges from different perspectives. You’ll have the opportunity to work on an independent research project and conduct fieldwork. Our diverse range of modules includes topics such as:- gender, body and sexualities- racial injustice and anti-racist activism- ethnographic film, visual and sensory anthropology- economic precarity, wage-less life and the gig economy- violence and conflict in postcolonial contexts.During your studies, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to make a positive difference in the world. When you graduate, you’ll have the knowledge for employment in areas such as:- NGOs and global development organisations- media- international research organisations- charities- journalism.
