Course summary

The main aerospace engineering topics you’ll study include aerodynamics, aero structures, flight dynamics and control, propulsion systems, communications, avionics and aircraft materials. The programmes include a two day flight test course in a Jetstream aircraft. Our Aerospace Engineering degree programmes are double accredited (by the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers). This programme is very similar to that of the Aerospace Engineering degree programmes (H425 and H421) but also introduces elements of pilot studies for students interested in becoming pilots. In Year One, the Pilot studies module (based on the PPL ground school syllabus) complements the flight training programme of 20 hours which is mandatory. In Year Two, the Pilot studies module is based on the Air Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) ground school syllabus. This programme is accredited by:The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), following XJTLU's BA China Studies degree classes. XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.
